What is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is hands down one of my favorite treatments to receive but especially to perform as an Esthetician. It is instant gratification, by removing the vellous hair and dead skin with a special blade, it gives your skin an immediate beautiful glow. Dermaplaning aims to make your skin’s surface smooth, youthful, and radiant. This treatment can help to remove deep scarring from acne and uneven pockmarks on your skin. It’s also called microplaning or blading.

Dermaplaning is a type of mechanical exfoliant that uses a blade to remove the dead skin and make up build up found on the epidermis. When exfoliating the epidermis using this technique, the vellus hair or peach fuzz is also removed. The vellus hair naturally casts a dull shadow on your face and by removing the hair, it reveals your skins true glow.

Not only after dermaplaning does product penetration increase but application of make up is so smooth. I recommend this treatment prior to weddings or special events for a optimal glow.

The treatment itself takes about 30 minutes, is painless and requires no down time. When working on a treatment plan with your Esthetician, they may incorporate more aggressive products with dermaplaning. These would include Enzymes, chemical peels or prior to a photo-facial.

Skin maybe photosensitive post treatment so using a SPF always is important. Dermaplaning can be performed once a month to maintain healthy skin.
